Fall is on the way, and what better way to get ready - and enjoy the best of what the Northern Neck has to offer, than attend the Northern Neck Harvest & Food Festival?

The end of the summer is a bittersweet moment. Yes, summer is over. But fall is on the way, and the Northern Neck’s biggest fall celebration is set for September 27, when Stratford Hall Plantation, in Westmoreland County, hosts the annual Northern Neck Food and Harvest Festival. Jim Schepmoes, marketing director at the historic site, says this year’s festival has lots of offer the entire family. Wineries from the Northern Neck Wine Trail will be on hand for a wine tasting. |

Participating vineyards include Athena Vineyards and Winery from Northumberland County, Belle Mont Vineyards from Richmond County, Ingleside Vineyards from Westmoreland County, Oak Crest Vineyard and Winery from King George, Potomac Point Vineyard and Winery from Stafford County and Vault Field Vineyards from Westmoreland County. Wine Tasting, for attendees 21 and older, is $5 and includes souvenir glass. There will also be a bluegrass music festival for much of the day. Performers include the Mark Newton Band. Mark Newton Band, a local favorite now based near Nashville. Mark Newton and his band will play two 45-minute sets at 12:30pm and 3:15pm. Also playing will be the Blades of Bluegrass, who performed at the Menokin Bluegrass Festival this spring and are based in King George. Naturally, there will be plenty of delicious food, including barbeque, hamburgers and Crab Dawgs! Oh, and bring your sweet tooth. There will be a chocolate-making demonstration in the kitchen outbuilding. Kids activities including the popular petting zoo, face painting, Colonial games, hayrides, a scavenger hunt and more!
