Northern Neck Electric Coop Rates Rise

Northern Neck residents who get their electricity from the Northern Neck Electric Cooperative will pay more more it. Thee Virginia State Corporation Commission has flashed the green light on the co-op's request.

The cooperative will increase its monthly access charge on residential and small business customers from $8.50 to $16, a nearly 100% rise. It's the first increase since 1992 and will provide the cooperative with an additional $2 million in revenue.

Northern Neck Electric serves some 18,000 customers in Stafford, King George, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, and Lancaster counties.
