| Rappahannock River Tour Set For August 31 |
|
| The Northern Neck has become favorite turf for cycling
enthusiasts along the Atlantic Coast, because of our fairly flat surfaces
and incredible scenery. That's why you may want to mark your calendar
for August 31, when Northern
Neck Cycling co-hosts the Rappahannock River Tour. |
|
| All pace groups will meet up in Kilmarnock for lunch on the patio at Savannah Joes (formerly Smokin Joes). After lunch the route travels to the historic village of Weems where Carters Creek joins the Rappahannock River. From Weems, the route travels back to Irvington with a stop along the way to visit the beautiful grounds and buildings of Christ Church. Christ Church
was completed in 1735 and is considered to be the best preserved and most
finely crafted of colonial Virginia's Anglican parish churches. There
is a $5 “contribution” for the Christ Church tour. Upon return
to Irvington, Steve Reiss, our host from Northern Neck Cycling, has invited
all riders back to his house for a very informal libation and snack gathering.
Steve’s address is 729 Chesapeake Drive in Irvington, which is the
street on the other side of Commons area from the Steamboat Museum. Follow
Chesapeake Drive to the end of the street. Cars can park in the cul-de-sac.
Bicycles should come down the driveway to the house. If you are planning
on joining us on this ride, please email or call Hugh no later than noon
on Thursday, August 28 so that he can give an accurate head count to the
restaurant, Christ Church and Steve. |
